NBA All-Star Reserves Named

The NBA announced the list of 14 players selected on Jan. 31 by the coaches as reserves for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. The game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 17 at New Orleans Arena.

For the Western Conference team, New Orleans Hornets' Chris Paul and David West, first-time All-Star selections, are joined by another first-timer, Portland Trail Blazer Brandon Roy, along with the Utah Jazz' Carlos Boozer, the Phoenix Suns' Steve Nash and Amaré Stoudemire, and Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.

The Eastern Conference reserves are: the Detroit Pistons' Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton, Toronto Raptors' Chris Bosh, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison from the Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks' Joe Johnson and the Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics.

The aforementioned All-Star reserves were selected by the 30 NBA head coaches, who were each asked to vote for 7 players in their respective conferences, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Starters, selected through the All-Star Balloting Program were Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd and Dwyane Wade for the East, and Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan for the West.

If any player is unable to participate in the game due to injury, NBA Commissioner David Stern will select the replacement.
