Australian Hoops Star has Olympic Breakout Game

August 6 - So far, the best performance by a previously unheralded player in the Olympic Men's basketball competition has been turned in by Australia's 19-year old Patrick 'Paddy' Mills, who befuddled the US team with his blazing speed in a 87-76 Aussie loss.

Mills is the only college ball player at the Olympics, having recently finished his first year of college basketball at St Mary's, in California. Before the August 5 game, he was a relatively unknown back-up point guard. When the final buzzer sounded, Mills was being feted by opponents and watchers alike, significantly boosting talk of his future NBA candidacy.

It was the way that Mills seemed to have no problem in piercing the vaunted US defense that raised the most eyebrows. US coach Mike Krzyzewski admitted his team had made no special preparations for Mills, as they knew virtually nothing about him and didn't expect him to play.
