Carmelo Anthony Draws Two-Game Suspension for DUI

June 25 -- The Denver Nuggets suspended NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony for the first two games of the 2008-09 as punishment for his April arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

The announcement by the team came just after Anthony was named to the U.S. Olympic team. Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien said in a written statement the team will continue to support Anthony in the matter of his DUI case as he "strives to live up to the high expectations" set by the team.

Anthony was arrested April 14 on Interstate 25 in Denver. Police said he was weaving and also failed a series of sobriety tests. Following his arrest, Anthony apologized to his team and his fans and said his behavior was "truly and totally unacceptable."

Three weeks later, Anthony was ticketed for driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. The 24-year-old paid the attendant $130 fine.
