Lakers' Pau Gasol Injured in Loss

March 14 - The Los Angeles Lakers starting center Pau Gasol, who was traded to the team last month from the Memphis Grizzlies, injured his ankle in the first quarter of an eventual 108-98 loss to the New Orleans Hornets.

The Lakers were left shorthanded in the frontcourt just minutes into the game as Gasol was forced to leave with a sprained ankle after stepping on teammate Vladimir Radmanovic's foot while going for an offensive rebound. Gasol is averaging 19.2 points and 8.6 rebounds this season for Memphis and Los Angeles.

For New Orleans, guard Chris Paul enhanced his MVP credentials, scoring 27 points and handing out 17 assists. He shot 9-for-19 from the floor and directed his team to a 48 percent shooting performance for the game. Guard Peja Stojakovic chipped in with 15 points and center/forward David West added 12 and 14 rebounds.
