Manu Ginobili Wins NBA Sixth Man Award

April 22 - Argentinean guard Manu Ginobili of the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs was the runaway winner in the NBA's Sixth Man Award vote, announced today by the league.

Ginobili received 615 out of a possible 620 points from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from the United States and Canada to effortlessly outdistance last year's winner, Phoenix Suns guard Leandro Barbosa, who tallied 283 votes, while guard Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks came in third place with only 44 votes.

Coming off the bench in 51 of the 74 games played in the regular season, Ginobili topped the Spurs in scoring with a career-best 19.5 points along with 4.8 rebounds and 1.47 steals.

On Saturday, Ginobili hit a game-winning layup with 1.8 seconds left in the second overtime against the hapless Phoenix Suns, lifting his team to a dramatic 117-115 victory in the first game of their opening round Western Conference playoff series.
