New Orleans Wins Ninth Consecutive Game; Lead Western Conference

The streaking New Orleans Hornets got their ninth straight victory, blasting the Denver Nuggets 117-93 on Jan. 28.

Point guard Chris Paul paced his team with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 17 assists as New Orleans improved to 12-1 for the month of January. They are within the franchise record for consecutive win.

Paul heard "MVP" chants from Hornets fans in the third quarter. His coach, Byron Scott, indicated that he felt the young guard was well deserving for consideration for the award.

Hornet shooting guard Peja Stojakovic helped out with 19 points, and forward Melvin Ely had 16. Center Tyson Chandler crashed the boards for 16 rebounds and added 10 points.

All-Star starting guard Allen Iverson led Denver with 23 points, breaking the 22,000 point career mark in the third quarter. All-star forward Carmelo Anthony, nursing a high ankle sprain, missed his fourth straight game.

The Hornets now boast the best record in the Western Conference.
