Marv Albert To Announce NBA Games Through 2016
Noted sports announcer Marv Albert has signed a new contract with Turner Sports which runs through the 2015-16 NBA season, according to the network.
Albert will broadcast one of TNT's Thursday night NBA games, the NBA All-Star Game and league Conference Finals playoff series. He will also announce games on the NBA TV network starting with the 2008-09 season.
Honored for his work as a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Albert is commonly referred to as "the voice of basketball," with his exuberant "Yes! And it count!" one of the best-known sports calls. From 1967 to 2004, he was the main broadcaster for the New York Knicks. Starting out as a team a ball boy, Albert got his first break on New York radio by famed sportscaster Marty Glickman. In 2004, he was fired by the MSG Network after criticizing the Knicks' poor play in broadcasts.
In 2005, Albert became the lead play-by-play announcer for the New Jersey Nets for the YES Network, teaming up with New York playground legend and NBA veteran, Mark Jackson. He calls about 50 games a season, also hosts a basketball-focused interview show on NBA TV, which also airs later on YES.
Albert did the play-by-play radio broadcast analysis for Super Bowl LXII, won by the New York Giants, 17 - 13, over the New England Patriots on Feb. 3.
