New NBA Team to be Officially Named Next Week

August 27 - The new NBA franchise in Oklahoma City set a date to officially announce its name and team colors. The team said that it would unveil the name and colors simultaneously on its Web site and at a downtown event on Wednesday, September. 3.

The team ownership group has applied for trademarks for six names: Thunder, Energy, Wind, Marshalls, Barons and Bison. A local TV station has reported that the choice will be Thunder, but management has refused to comment on what the actual name will be.
