Dirk Nowitzki Suspended for Hard Foul

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, last year's MVP, has been suspended one game without pay for a flagrant foul committed against Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko during a game between the two teams on Monday, March 3 at the Jazz's home arena.

The violation was called a "flagrant foul, penalty one" during the game, but was upgraded to a "penalty two" after being reviewed by the NBA league office. Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations, announced the upgrade on March 5.

The foul took place with 7 minutes remaining in the first period of Dallas' eventual 116-110 loss to the Jazz. Nowitzki will serve his suspension when the Mavericks host the Houston Rockets on March 6 at home.
