Allen Iverson Leads Nuggets to Win over Nets

Denver guard Allen Iverson scored 30 points and Linas Kleiza added 23 as the Nuggets defeated the New Jersey Nets by a score of 100-85 on Jan. 25. Nugget forward Kenyon Martin, who was the first pick by the Nets in the 2000 draft, chipped in with 20 points.

This was the second game played by the Nuggets without their star forward Carmelo Anthony, who is nursing a badly-sprained right ankle that was hurt in a recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

New Jersey has lost eight straight games, the franchise's longest losing streak in more than three years. Forward Richard Jefferson led the Nets with 19 points. Point guard Jason Kidd contributed a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. It was his eleventh of the year, and the 98th of his career.

Iverson hit his first shot of the second quarter, a 3-pointer, and 3 by Eduardo Najera gave the Nuggets a 28-12 lead. A dunk by Kleiza put Denver ahead 38-20, its biggest lead of the half.

The Nets did not start out well, hitting only 5-of-22 shots with five turnovers. The team only scored 31 points in the first half, and trailed by 16 points at the half.

Nugget center Marcus Camby blocked his 1,000th shot as a member of the team, early in the second quarter. Anthony is expected to return on Sunday in Denver's game against Dallas.
