Gerald Wallace and Baron Davis Named NBA Players of the Week
On Jan. 22 Golden State Warriors point guard Baron Davis Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace were named as the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Jan. 14 to Jan. 20.
Davis helped Golden State to a 3-1 week, featuring road wins over Minnesota, Chicago and Milwaukee. Davis led the Warriors in scoring in three of the four contests, averaging 26.3 points and 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 4.5 steals. Davis, recorded both a 40-point game and a seven-steal game.
Wallace guided the Bobcats to a 3-1 week, averaging 29 points, 8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3 steals. Charlotte opened the week with a 119-116 win over the Nuggets, aided by Wallace's 40-point game. Then, Wallace set a rebound career high with eight offensive boards (14 overall), along with 36 points in a win over Orlando. The 76 points scored in the two games is a franchise record. The Bobcats finished the week with a victory over Memphis, in which Wallace tied a league season high with seven steals.
Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Cavaliers LeBron James, Buck's Andrew Bogut, Hornet's David West, Knicks's Jamal Crawford, Sun's Steve Nash, Kings's Kevin Martin, Raptors's Chris Bosh and Jazz's Deron Williams.
