Al Jefferson and Hedo Turkoglu Named NBA Players of the Week

Minnesota forward Al Jefferson and Orlando forward/guard Hedo Turkoglu were named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week on Jan. 28, for games played between Jan 21 and Jan. 27.

Jefferson led his team to a 3-1 week, with averages of 28.8 points and 12.8 rebounds. The Timberwolves beat three playoff teams from last year and their only loss came was by one point to the Celtics. Jefferson had three double-doubles, including 40-points and 19-rebounds in a win over the New Jersey Nets on Jan. 27.

Turkoglu also helped his team to a 3-1 week, which included wins over conference powerhouses, Detroit and Boston. He led Orlando in scoring in all four games, averaging 25.5 points, including .500 shooting from behind the arc. Turkoglu had a game-high 27 points, along with the game-winning three at the buzzer the Magic's Jan 27 96-93 victory over Boston.

Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were the Bobcats' Emeka Okafor, Cavaliers' Zydrunas Ilgauskas and LeBron James, Pistons' Richard Hamilton, Bucks' Andrew Bogut, Hornets' Peja Stojakovic and David West, Suns' Steve Nash and Amaré Stoudemire, Raptors' Chris Bosh and Jose Calderon, and the Jazz's Deron Williams.
