Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett Named Players of the Week

March 24 - New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul and Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett were named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively. This is the second such award for both players during this season.

Paul guided New Orleans to a 3-0 week, as he averaged 25.7 points, 10 assists and 3 steals. He has scored more than 20 points in 15 of his team's last 19 games. In a 113-106 win over Boston, the Hornets came back from a 15-point deficit as Paul scored seven of his 19 points in the final 2 minutes of the game. He also had 37 points, 13 assists and 3 steals in a 108-97 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Garnett led the Celtics to a 3-1 week, helping his team to become the first since 2001 to sweep the Texas Triangle (the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs). The Celtics last pulled this off in 1987. Garnett tallied 22 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals in a 94-74 win over the Rockets, which snapped a 22-game winning streak. Garnett averaged 20.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2 steals for the week.

Other nominees for the Players of the Week award were Atlanta Hawks' Joe Johnson, Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce, Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James, Indiana Pacers' Mike Dunleavy, Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge, Phoenix Suns' Amare Stoudemire and Washington Wizards' Antawn Jamison.
