Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh Named NBA Players of the Week

Kobe Bryant, of the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors' Chris Bosh were named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, on January 14, for games played Monday, January 7 through Sunday, January 13.

Bryant led the Lakers to a 4-0 week, which included wins over the Hornets, Bucks and the Grizzlies twice. Bryant averaged 29.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals on the week. Closing the week with back-to-back 37-point performances, he incrased his season average to 27.0 ppg, second best in the NBA to LeBron James' 29.1. The Lakers are riding a six-game winning streak and at 25-11, they own the second best record in the Pacific Division and the third best record in the Western Conference.

Bosh led Toronto to a 3-0 week, averaging 33.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per contest. He shot .552 from the field and .806 from the foul line for the week. After divisional wins over the 76ers and Knicks, Bosh capped Toronto's undefeated week with a 38-point, 14-rebound performance against the surging Portland Trail Blazers. At 20-17, the Raptors own the second best record in the Atlantic Division and the fourth best record in the Eastern Conference.

Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Atlanta's Joe Johnson, Charlotte's Jason Richardson, Cleveland's LeBron James, Golden State's Baron Davis, Houston's Yao Ming, Portland's Brandon Roy, Sacramento's John Salmons and Utah's Mehmet Okur.
