NBA Referee Management Shakeup

July 22 -- In commissioner David Stern's latest attempt to restore the NBA's credibility in in the aftermath of the Tim Donaghy betting scandal, the league announced the promotion of two officials to supervise ref operations.

Bernie Fryer, long-time referee and current assistant director of officials, will become the vice president and director of officials. Another former referee Joe Borgia, will become vice president of referee operations. Fryer will be responsible for the refs' on-court actions, while Borgia will be responsible for overseeing all other aspects.

Both league officials and yet one more former referee Ronnie Nunn, who goes from director of officials to being in charge of their development, will be located in the New York headquarters.
