Former All-Star Chris Webber Officially Retires
March 26 - Golden State Warriors forward Chris Webber, a 15-year veteran nagged by knee injuries in recent years, made his official retirement announcement at a Wednesday morning press conference held in Oakland's Oracle Arena.
Webber has played only nine games for Golden State in his comeback attempt with the team that chose him as its top pick in the 1993 NBA Draft from the University of Michigan.
Chronic knee pain had kept Webber on the sidelines for the past three weeks as his team battled for a Western Conference playoff spot. The Warriors currently rank eighth in the conference, a half-game in front of the Denver Nuggets for the last playoff spot.
Webber has averaged 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 831 games with the Warriors, Washington, Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. The 6'11" power forward has most of his success the Kings, transforming them into a powerhouse and an arch-nemesis for the Los Angeles Lakers.
