Ryan Gomes Leads Timberwolves Past Sonics

March 14 - Minnesota Timberwolves forward Ryan Gomes led seven teammates in double figures with 23 points and 15 rebounds, pulling away from the Seattle Supersonics in the final 15 minutes to win 121-116.

The two teams are among the worst in the Western Conference, and are contending to gain more pingpong balls in the up-coming NBA draft lottery.

Minnesota guard Randy Foye scored 21 points and center Al Jefferson added 16 as the team attempts to move out of the cellar in the Northwest Division. The 'Wolves won their 3rd straight road game, after winning going 2-for-28 before that.

For Seattle, standout rookie forward Kevin Durant scored 24 points and Jeff Green added 18. However, they could not prevent their team from dropping its 7th straight game.

Minnesota took control late in the 3rd quarter, scoring 10 straight points at the line during a 16-2 run capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Rashad McCants and Gomes for a 10-point lead.

The Timberwolves reserves outscored the Sonics' 41-34. Guard Rashad McCants tallied 13 and forwards Corey Brewer and Craig Smith both scored 11.

Minnesota was without veteran center Michael Doleac, guard Sebastian Telfair and forward Antoine Walker.
