2011 FINALS

Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat – All 6 Games – $35

Dallas MavericksMiami Heat

One of the all-time classic NBA Finals series, which concluded with the Mavs winning their first-ever championship thanks to the heroics of MVP Dirk Nowitzki, not to mention the major contributions from Jason Terry and JJ Barea. It was a true team effort that defeated the favored Heat, with their ‘Big 3‘ of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The series will most be remembered for what LeBron didn’t do -- specifically in the fourth quarter -- but one has to give Dallas their just due.

2010 FINALS

Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers – All 7 Games – $35

Boston CelticsLA Lakers

Like two heavyweight fighers, the Lakers and Celtics took turns landing haymakers on each other, going seven games in this gritty, hard-fought series. The swings in momentum from game to game were truly amazing. The series went right down to the wire, with the ultimate outcome still in the balance until the final seconds of Game 7. In fact, one could hardly script more tight, tension-packed games, with excellent defense played throughout on both sides by two teams who really didn’t like each other. In the end, it was the Lakers' toughness, which was not on display in their 2008 championship loss, that determined the series.

2009 FINALS

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Orlando Magic – All 5 Games – $30

LA LakersOrlando Magic

Although it only went five games, this series was tight throughout with most of the games in doubt until the very end. The Magic were the ‘new kids on the block’, fighting their way into a Finals that virtually no one had forecast them to be in at the beginning of the season. Kobe was dominant in the series, but Dwight Howard definitely opened some eyes with his play down low. Though they fought gamely down to the end, it was the inexperience that cost the Magic, as the battle-tested Lakers knew how to make the right plays in the biggest moments.

2008 FINALS

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics – All 6 Games – $35

LA LakersBoston Celtics

In a much-anticipated Finals matchup, the two most storied franchises in league history went up against each other as the best teams in their respective conferences. The Celtics were the winners of 16 championships before the series began, while the Lakers possessed 14. With big-name players throughout both rosters, such as Kobe and Pau Gasol for the Lakers, and the “Big Three” of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen for the Celtics. There were some serious momentum swings in the series, but the Celtics’ consistently excellent team defense proved to be the determining factor, as they won their 17th championship in dominating fashion during Game 6.

Kobe scored 33 points and Andrew Bynum added 26. Eric Gordon had 21 for the Clips.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns – 02/20/08

LA LakersPhoenix Suns

Laker newcomer Pau Gasol helped with 29 points and Lamar Odom chipped in with 22. O'Neal scored nine of his 15 points in the final quarter and grabbed nine rebounds in 29 minutes of action in his first game as a member of the Suns.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. New York Knicks – 12/23/07

LA LakersSacramento Kings

Kobe Bryant scored his 20,000th career point against the Knicks, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach that milestone. He achieved the feat when he hit a 3-pointer with 11:08 remaining in the third quarter, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan as the only players in league history to score 20,000 points before the age of 30. Bryant scored 39 points, adding 11 rebounds and eight assists, as the Lakers held on for a 95-90 win.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings – 05/31/02

LA LakersSacramento Kings

In what would become one of the most controversial games in league history, Shaquille O'Neal powered the Lakers to a Game Seven in the Western Conference finals with 41 points and 17 rebounds as the two-time defending champions staved off elimination with a 106-102 victory. The controversy involved what many observers felt was extremely biased officiating in favor of the Lakers. This was reinforced during the 2008 trial of disgraced referee Tim Donaghy when he alleged that game officials, acting in the interest of the NBA, conspired to extend a playoff series in 2002 to a seventh game. The Lakers-Kings series was the only one that went to seven games in that year.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Philadelphia 76ers – 06/06/01

LA LakersPhiladelphia 76ers

Led by Allen Iverson, the upstart Sixers stunned the heavily-favored Lakers with a 107-101 OT win in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Championships. Ivsrson scored 30 points in the first half, the most since Jordan torched the Trail Blazers in the 1992 championship series. The game featured Iverson's famous crossover and 'step-over' Tyron Lue after hitting a key jumper in OT. As intense a Game 1 of a championship series as has ever been played.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers – 06/04/00

LA LakersPortland Trail Blazers

In a truly intense game, Los Angeles, on the verge of losing three straight games for the first time all season, went on a 15-0 tear in the fourth quarter run to erase a huge Trail Blazer lead and win Game Seven of the 2000 Western Conference Championships. Kobe took over late in the game, hitting clutch shot after clutch shot, and delivering the game's most climactic moment - an awesome alley-oop to Shaq for a thunderous dunk that brought the house down and sealed the victory. This game marked the beginning of the Lakers dynasty.

This was the last All-Star Game to feature players wearing their retro team jerseys.

1992 NBA All-Star Weekend

The 42nd edition of the All-Star Game, held at the Orlando Arena, is most remembered for the return and vintage performance of Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, who retired before the 1991-92 NBA season after contracting HIV. 2008 Olympics Gold Medal Game – USA vs. Spain – 08/24/08

The "Redeem Team" finished the job they set out to do, by restoring America's primacy in men's Olympic basketball - but it was no easy task. The Spanish National Team that was soundly beaten the previous week in pool play proved to be a tough, resilient opponent and the game remained tight until the last two minutes. The legend of Ricky Rubio took root based on his fearless play. At 17, he was the youngest player ever to participate in an Olympics basketball final.

Team USA performed in dominating fashion in establishing themselves as the top seed in Group B against a Spanish squad touted to be their toughest opponent. Young Ricky Rubio scored 8 points and thrilled the crowd with exquisitely timed lob passes. According to observers, Rubio played the best of all the Spanish guards, in limited minutes.

2008 Olympics - USA vs. Greece - 08/14/08

The Redeem Team passed its first real Olympic test by routing Greece, with Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh leading the way with 18 points each. Dwyane Wade tallied 17 points, six steals and five assists, including an incredible lob to Bryant for a shattering alley-oop dunk.

1992 Olympics Gold Medal Game – USA vs. Croatia – 08/08/92

US Flag  Croatian Flag

Popularly known as the greatest team assembled in any sport, the first Dream Team, led by Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan was truly a dominant force in the Barcelona Olympics. Although most will recall the team's absurdly high margin of victory over clearly overmatched opponents, the Gold Medal game was actually a tight contest in the early going. A Croatian team led by the late Drazen Petrovic and the then-best player in Europe, Tony Kukoc, actually led the US squad 25-23 early in the first half and continued to play in a spirited, non-intimidated fashion throughout the game. The expected end result was a coronation, of sorts, and like with the Redeem Team's victory, placed America at the top of the men's basketball heap after the failure to win the Gold by college players in 1988.
